There is a valid standing Circuit Court order
since June 2004 that the Island Lake Shooting Range must comply
with the noise ordinance of Green Oak Township. Every time they exceed
the noise limits they are subject to citation by the township and
are in contempt of the court ruling. The 65 decibel noise limit at
the range boundary means that it would be nearly impossible to hear
gunshots at your home. If you are annoyed by the gunshots or hear
them outside their allowed hours of operation (10:00 am to 6:00 pm),
please call the
Mary Benson in the DNR Director's office at
517-335-4873 and
Sherry Chandler, local Range Manager, at 517-335-3410.
(You may also e-mail by clicking their names.)
Talk with your
neighbors about your concerns and encourage them to participate with
you in quieting this excessive gunshot noise. Have them contact
us by e-mail at
neighbors@cfqc.org .
Below are sample letters
(in two formats) you may send to various people and agencies.
Simply print them out, or copy to your computer, add your name and
address, and mail to the address at the top of the letter. They can
also be used as a basis for a personalized letter. Your
letters, in addition to any e-mails, will increase the receiver's
awareness of the noise problem. We encourage each member of your household
to send a letter; the more letters and e-mails we send, the more
they will understand our concern.
Please send copies of your
letters to Citizens for a Quiet Community so we may submit them as
a group at a later date prior to the trial.
